| Copy to clipboard painfully slow in OneNote 2007 Recently (in the last week), OneNote 2007 has started to freeze for 3-20 seconds when I copy to the clipboard I obtain this behavior now quite systematically when: 1) I do "copy hyperlink to this page" inside OneNote 2) When I use the 'Screen clipping feature' (Windows Key + S) and then try to go abck to OneNote, it will take several seconds before OneNote will become responsive again (all my other applications are fine). 3) Just copying simple text also does that now from anywhere in Windows (e.g. copying a url from Firefox, then I transfer control back to OneNote, it will take a few seconds before it responds again). I tried the following: - restarting Windows - restarting OneNote - closing all my folders in OneNote except a small one (my OneNote Nootebooks folder is now 445 Mb, so I have a lot of notes and thought this could be why, but even a small folder reproduces the problem) - changing the 'default paste' option in OneNote from 'keep source formatting' to 'keep text only' None of those solved my problem. I am suspicious that a recent Windows XP update has been causing this, though I don't know enough about Windows to figure out if the security update for Windows XP KB943460 is the one which could be responsible. The only two other updates which were installed recently (all on November 13th) are the Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB943552) and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2007 (KB890830) which I doubt has nothing to do with this... More info about my system: I have: - Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6017.5000) - Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 SP2 - Lenovo Intel Core Duo with 2 Gb of RAM Also, the OneNote freeze is not caused by hogging the CPU (it stays around 0%) or by slow disk access (the disk access light on my laptop doesn't flash more than a usual no activity when this happens). Anybody else is having similar issues? I make *very extensive* use of OneNote, and this new behavior is terribly annoying... I have been using it for a year now without a problem similar to this. Thanks, Simon |

| Re: Copy to clipboard painfully slow in OneNote 2007 I wonder if another application might be polling the clipboard or something? By default, when you copy anything in OneNote (including text) it stores the selection on the clipboard in several formats, including a bitmap represenation. If some application is pulling out the bitmap (particularly if you're using any remote desktop sessions at the time which will transfer the clipboard contents over the network) it could be the issue. Try closing all other applications that are open, and maybe killing a few background processes, and see if you can't narrow it down to one. -- Josh Einstein (Tablet PC MVP) Einstein Technologies Tablet Enhancements for Outlook - Try it free: www.tabletoutlook.com "Simon Lacoste-Julien" <SimonLacosteJulien@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0185873F-3D97-4053-8C13-2BBC2D3B579D@microsoft.com... > Recently (in the last week), OneNote 2007 has started to freeze for 3-20 > seconds when I copy to the clipboard > > I obtain this behavior now quite systematically when: > 1) I do "copy hyperlink to this page" inside OneNote > 2) When I use the 'Screen clipping feature' (Windows Key + S) and then try > to go abck to OneNote, it will take several seconds before OneNote will > become responsive again (all my other applications are fine). > 3) Just copying simple text also does that now from anywhere in Windows > (e.g. copying a url from Firefox, then I transfer control back to OneNote, > it > will take a few seconds before it responds again). > > I tried the following: > - restarting Windows > - restarting OneNote > - closing all my folders in OneNote except a small one (my OneNote > Nootebooks folder is now 445 Mb, so I have a lot of notes and thought this > could be why, but even a small folder reproduces the problem) > - changing the 'default paste' option in OneNote from 'keep source > formatting' to 'keep text only' > > None of those solved my problem. | Re: Copy to clipboard painfully slow in OneNote 2007 Actually, a Windows restart solved the problem. I thought I had already restarted Windows during the week where I was having this problem, but it was not the case, and restarting it did solve the problem. Maybe the problem was related to something you mentioned, though for now it will just be another one of those weird bugs which are non-reproducible and which are solved by restarting Windows... If I get this bug ever again, I'll post back...
