cannot write to shared notebook

When I open a shared notebook, I am able to read it but no input is
accepted. 'New page' is also disabled. I can copy files to the shared
folder so I seem to have write access. I then copied the shared
notebook to my local computer, renamed it and copied it back again
under the new name to its original location. After opening the renamed
shared notebook, everything worked fine - I could edit pages, add new
pages and so on. I have no idea what's the reason for this behaviour.
Has anyone got any idea? Thanks!
Peter

Re: cannot write to shared notebook

File permissions. You didn't have write permissions on the folder and
files in the shared folder. Permissions stay with files & folder moved
on the same volume (same hard drive basically), but don't go with them
if you move between volumes. When you moved the items to your computer,
they inherited the permissions of the folder you moved them into. When
you moved them back, they inherited the permissions of the folder you
moved them into.
You could achieve the same thing, if you reset inheritance on the
original folder, via Properties, Security, Advanced.

RE: cannot write to shared notebook

What operating system are you using (Vista, XP or Win2K3) and where is the
notebook stored (sharepoint, UNC, somewhere else)?

Re: cannot write to shared notebook

I had this same issue after upgrading from 2003 to 2007. When I ran the
option to upgrade my files to 2007, it processed without issue but individual
pages remained in the "read only" state. Although I had full access previous
to the upgrade this morning, I was forced to explicitly add my domain account
with the appropriate access to the network file share where I store my
OneNote files. Once added, I regained the ability to update/modify existing
files now in OneNote 2007.

Not sure why this was required for 2007, but thanks for the heads up.
