I have a question regarding handwriting recognition using OneNote 2003 on a
notebook computer NOT a Tablet.

I use an Addesso CyberPad to take notes during meetings, lectures,
hearings, etc. When I get back to the office I download the notes to my
notebook computer via a USB connection. I convert the ink notes to text
using MyScript handwriting recognition software. I would like to use OneNote
to convert the notes to text and also be able to search the text notes.

There is a third party software (BlueEuclid CyberConverter) that will export
the handwritten notes to ON. This is reasonable priced, so that is not a
problem. The problem is BlueEuclid says in their material, "If you are
planning on using the handwriting to text conversion abilities in OneNote,
you should know that Windows XP does not typicall ship with the libraries
needed for this. These must be downloaded and configured separtely."

My question is: Where can I find these libraries and information on
downloading and configuring them.

Does anyone out there have any experience using CyberPad, BlueEuclid
CyberConverter and ON?

That information is wrong; The libraries in question are what make up the
Tablet PC OS. Essentially, the Tablet PC OS is WIndows XP Professional
with a superset of features enabling Pen input and handwriting recognition.
For retail customers, the only way to get the Tablet PC OS is to have it
preinstalled by the OEM when purchasing a Tablet PC computer.

Vista handles things a little bit differently, but I don't know the
details. Is seems as if the Tablet PC bits are included in one or more of
the flavors (Ultimate/Home/Premium/etc.) of Vista, and are not exclusively
available from OEMs, but I don't know if that means that you can use an
external digitizer to take advantage of these features. The Tablet PC
section of the Microsoft site looks like it hasn't been updated in a while
(there are links to XP resources, and ads for OneNote 2003!) You may have
better luck asking your question in the Tablet PC group. If those folks
tell you that you can use your CyberPad as a Tablet input device, then the
libraries for OneNote to convert your handwriting to text should be
available to you.

Unfortunately these libraries are not downloadable. They do ship with
Microsoft Office 2003, if you have that. There are two separate settings in
the Setup program that need to be enabled.
