Problem with Word 2007 custom watermark

My apologies if this is posted twice…the browser crashed this morning during
posting. But I gave it a few hours to see if the original post appeared or
not.

This has been driving me nuts…mostly because it’s probably something I’m
doing wrong.

I am using Word 2007. I want to put a custom watermark on just page 1 of a
multi-page document (no watermark on pages 2, 3, 4, etc.). I inserted a “next
page” section break in page 1 and “disconnected” the header of page 2 from
page 1(i.e. de-selected “Link to Previous”).

If I insert a built-in watermark (i.e. Draft, Sample, etc.) it works as
expected. I see the watermark on page 1 but not on pages 2 and higher.
However, if I change the watermark to a “Custom” watermark, the watermark
appears on all pages.

I have tried to follow MS’ step-by-step instructions but cannot make it work.

Any ideas on where I am going wrong?

Tim

Re: Problem with Word 2007 custom watermark

I see the same behavior here. I'm guessing that it's a bug.

As a workaround, after the custom watermark is inserted, click in the header
area on page 2, and verify that Link to Previous is not selected. Click on
the watermark to select it (you might need to use the Select Objects too,
which is in the Editing chunk in the Home ribbon), then tap the delete key.
This should zap it from page 2 and later.

Herb,

Thank you! Great idea...it worked for me. I was also glad to see it wasn't
something I was screwing up ;-)
