Hello, I am only having this problem on my laptop. When I try to download or
open any kind of Office attachment, like Word or Excel, I'm getting an error
message stating "Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to
open it?" And then underneath that it says "Unknown File Type".

I have Word, Excel and the entire office suite on my laptop. I can open up
Word and Excel on my own (not as an attachment) and there is no problem.
This just started all of a sudden and I can't open any attachments at all!
Please help!

Anti-virus scanner perhaps interfering? They might have reset it to scan
attachments during an update.

Hi Bob,

I only have Ad-Aware, CCleaner, and Win Patrol on this computer. Same as I
have on my desktop, and I can open my e-mail attachments on that one ok.
It's like when I try to open an Office attachment, my computer isn't
recognizing that I have Word and Excel on the computer, and is giving me the
Unknown File Type error.

In that case,try Help, Detect and Repair in Word or Excel.
