Office 2003 Prof. upgrade from Office XP Prof.

I have been using Office 2003 Prof which I had bought as an upgrade over
Office XP Prof. (Both were bought as retail packs)

Recently I have had to reinstall Office 2003 but since Office XP CD has got
corrupted, the installation stops at product compliance check. The net result
is that I am not able to install either Office XP or Office 2003.

I am in India and I escalated this to Microsoft Support here. Since getting
a replacement CD for Office XP was not possible (understandably so) I had
asked for a licence key that could help me install Office 2003 upgrade
without Office XP CDAfter more than a month of emails, I was told that I need
to provide the proof of purchase in order to get this sorted out. I was also
asked to send the scanned images of the media that I have which I did. This
was apparently to ensure that the software was legal and licenced. But that
did not help either. I was also asked to contact the reseller from where I
had bought the software which in my case is somewhere in Middle East as I had
bought the software while I was there.

The end result of this entire exercise is that I am not able to install
Office (XP or 2003). The reason I am sharing this here is to know if someone
else has had the same problem. If yes, what was the solution offered.
Microsoft support in India have expressed there inability to help me without
the proof of purchase which, apparently, according to them, a customer is
supposed to preserve (presumably as long as one uses the software...!!!). I
do not remember having seen this stipulation either on the software retail
packs nor on Microsoft website.

Any comments?

Clean the CD with a soft cloth. I know this sounds like a joke but it's
worked for me on more than one occasion.

Re: Office 2003 Prof. upgrade from Office XP Prof.

Did that...does not work. May be the damage to my CD is more severe. Have you
tried contacting Microsoft support for this? If yes, what has been their
response?

thanks

No never had a need to. If you can find someone with a CD of Office XP
you could use their media but your license number. As a last resort you
could buy a copy from eBay.
