Excel-slow when first starts up

When I start Excel up and I type something. I then highlight the cell and
type Ctrl+b to make that cell Bold. Upon doing this the cell will become Bold
after about 20 secs. You can see the word or letter changing to a darker
color. Once the word or letter becomes bold if you select the cell and type
Ctrl+b then the word or letter will become un-Bold/(Bold) in less than a sec.
It only seems to be the first time I make the word or letter Bold. It
shouldn't take the first time 20 secs.

Can anybody tell me why it is doing this or how to fix it?
