| RE: where is the Save My Settings Wizard in Office 2007? Microsoft seems to have removed this functionality from Office 2007 and given it all over to the operating system. Windows Easy Transfer is probably what you'll need to use, though you could also download and use the User State Migration Tool. It's kind of like using a sledge hammer to swat a fly, but it works. I really did like the old office settings wizard. So neat, simple, and functional. Doing it the new way opens up many possibilities for "adventure". ;-) "John58" wrote: > I am using office 2007 on an XP machine. I plan on moving to a machine with > Vista soon. | Re: where is the Save My Settings Wizard in Office 2007? Yes, it's gone. Moved to Windows. You can either use the Windows Vista Easy Transfer Wizard or the User State Migration Tool 3.0 Patrick Schmid [OneNote MVP] -------------- http://pschmid.net *** Office 2007 RTM Issues: http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/11/13/80 *** Customize Office 2007: http://pschmid.net/office2007/customize RibbonCustomizer Add-In: http://pschmid.net/office2007/ribboncustomizer OneNote 2007: http://pschmid.net/office2007/onenote *** Subscribe to my Office 2007 blog: http://pschmid.net/blog/feed "Opinicus" <gezgin@spamcop.net> wrote in message news:12tbqaosh8nk4d0@news.supernews.com: > "jimmuh" <jimmuh@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote > > > I really did like the old office settings wizard. | Re: where is the Save My Settings Wizard in Office 2007? Yeah, that tool really suited me. It was a perfect fit for my purposes. But the WET tool works very easily, if with a little less focus, on the problem of transferring settings and data. The USMT is really highly configurable and can be customized to do just about exactly what you want, but it comes at a small price -- a bit of a learning curve, mostly because of the documentation. The documentation doesn't seem to be inaccurate in any way, but it does seem to have an odd slant -- even for the purposes of network admins, who would be the ones using it primarily, I think. For a regular end use I think that the USMT docs might be a bit daunting. For those who hang out here, a bit of head scratching should do the trick. Checked out your Web site briefly and was really charmed by it. Archaeology, interpretation, exotic (to me, anyway) locales, dogs, cats -- what more could one desire? Why the H E double-hockey-sticks am I doing what I'm doing at my age? (Don't ask!) Anyway, I'm pleased for you. Made a note of the URL and will show to the spouse later on. She'll get all pensive on me and ask me why I'm such a servant to technology. ;-) "Opinicus" wrote: > "jimmuh" <jimmuh@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote > > > I really did like the old office settings wizard. | RE: where is the Save My Settings Wizard in Office 2007? Both your suggestions sound fine, but I am only running XP and usually don't connect the 2 machines when upgrading as I like to keep the new machine as clean as possible. In the meantime I don't know what files to backup to save the configurations.
