How best to move office to new computer without violating license?

I want to install Office 2007 on my old computer. I will be getting a new
(replacement) computer in a month. I will want to move Office to the new
computer. How can I move Office 2007 from the old computer to the new one
without making the licensing stuff twitchy? (I'm guessing that I can save
mail and move it in pst or 2007 equivalent and I don't care about moving
settings and stuff.)

I have to ask, since you're talking about just one month, why not just
download the trial on the old system and when you get the new computer,
install the full version on that.

Re: How best to move office to new computer without violating lice

I'd really rather not but if that's the only way to do it then I guess that's
what I'll do.

So once you install Office 2007 on one computer you can never move it to
another?

If it's a retail version you can but installing it and uninstalling it in
less than a month seems like a royal PITA to me. That's why I offered
another option.

Re: How best to move office to new computer without violating lice

I have a retail version. I would like to know how to move it from one
computer to another. It may well be a PITA to you, but, honestly, jumping
through the hoops of using a Microsoft beta is a major PITA to me. And even
it is it a PITA, I'd still like to know how to do it.

Re: How best to move office to new computer without violating lice

I'm so sorry. I didn't mean beta... I mean trial.

I have already bought the program, I don't want to have to deal with
Microsoft's marketing efforts (which are very understandable since my
installing a trial assumes I am an interested potential customer -
understandable but annoying).

If the version of Office you have is the Enterprise edition, then it uses volume license keys that don't require individual activation like Vista does, so you could just stick it on both. Otherwise using the beta is the best way to go, I think...

Since the beta is timebombed and that clock is ticking, using the beta
(which is no longer available) is not a good diea.

Re: How best to move office to new computer without violating lice

Then just install it and when it comes time to install it on your new
computer, you will probably have to use the telephone activation option and
explain the situation to a human being.

BTW - what marketing efforts are you talking about?

Hi Kenrick,

And in that scenario, each machine would use up one purchased license from the Volume license pool of the organization that owns the
enterprise edition.

The retail edition license allows a 2nd computer installation.

Hello, I have a similar question and need some help. I got the full
version of Office 2007 at the recent rollout. I downloaded it and
loaded it on my desktop. I now find that I need a laptop for work and
would like to install it there instead. I have NO disk, and do not
have the cardboard sleeve with the passwords on it. Is there a way I
can simply move Office or do I have to download and re-install. And if
it's the latter, how do I make it a legal version.

Thanks

Carl Lutes

Re: How best to move office to new computer without violating license?

Hi Carl,

For the most part the launch event method was to download the trial edition and install it, then use the launch event provided
product key to convert the trial to a full copy. You can certainly download a trial edition from http://trymicrosoftoffice.com (if
you don't have the prior download saved to a CD) to install but if you no longer have the provided installation key you'd probably
need to purchase a license or a retail package.

Office 2007 generally needs to be installed via it's own Setup.exe to function properly.
