| Outlook 2007 .pst space problem Several times I have exceeded the 2 GB limit for Personal Folder. Each time I have shift-delete enough to recover, then tried to archive older material. Now, when I do the shift-delete the original message about being out of space recurs, meaning I have no recourse to reduce the space. It is 9KB over the limit. Any suggestions? -- Ray |

| Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem Outlook 2003 & above has no such size limit, when using the pst created in the default format used by both these versions. Presumably you are still using a pst created in an earlier version of outlook "Ray" <Ray@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2274F3EC-7FA3-452D-8E46-DF532A6274D1@microsoft.com... > Several times I have exceeded the 2 GB limit for Personal Folder. | Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem Thank you for your response. I do have a new, large .pst folder, but because of the "loop" I cannot delete any dragged item from the "old" .pst. I'm going to try to change the register and see if it can help. The only other option is to drag all individual folders from "old" to "new" one by one, since the shadow folder in "new" accepts only the basic folder, not subfolder. Repeating from my first post, the shift-delete combination does NOT delete, but first asks the normal "Do you want to peremanently delete the selected item(s)." message, but when you click YES, instead of deleating, it returns to the standard error message for out of space: "Outlook.pst has reached it's maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this file, select sme items you no longer need, and then permanently delete them by pressing SHIFT+DELETE........" This is a circular loop in the software. In the past I have shift-deleted my way out, not knowing how to increase the size. Now I know how to increase size, but the shift-delete solution does not seem available to me. The same recursive loop appears if one tries to use the MOVE selection to put an item in the "new" folder. | Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem It is likely. I had an older version, and exported and imported the whole set of data. | Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem I'm sure you are right. I exported from the old one and imported back into this one. But in this loop, I cannot do anything for recover. shift-delete does not function, MOVE (into large folder) does not function. Cannot export folders for subsequent recovery. Only solution I can work on right now is draging folder by folder into the large one. Hundreds of folders! But even after the drag creates a copy, I cannot delete the old one. -- Ray "DL" wrote: > Outlook 2003 & above has no such size limit, when using the pst created in > the default format used by both these versions. > Presumably you are still using a pst created in an earlier version of > outlook > > "Ray" <Ray@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:2274F3EC-7FA3-452D-8E46-DF532A6274D1@microsoft.com... > > Several times I have exceeded the 2 GB limit for Personal Folder. | Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem Then you may want to use the .pst crop tool to reduce the size of your .pst file to one where you can manage folders and deletions. You can find it here; http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.asp Try 100 MB at a time until you can work with your .pst file. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. | Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem Thank you. I did study and download the tool. However before I did that I tried one more workaround. I moved Outlook.pst out of the local store, and renamed one of my new large Personal Folders into the local store and renamed it Outlook.pst. Outlook opened correctly (whew!) and I then imported the old Outlook.pst into the new large folder. The only thing that seems to have been lost in the process was the calendar. I'm still looking for it. But that is the least of my woes. Now I have a place to store older information I rarely use, and yet keep a decent size to my root. Next stop is to export a .pst of each individual major component (ie calendar, inbox, etc) so that I have at least something to start anew. It has certainly been three days of intense education. I believe near the end of the process as I was trying to duplicate all files in some fashion, I brought the size of the root .pst below 2 GB (although the data still showed in the folders they were moved from). But alas, it did not recognize the much lower size. Thanks again for the assistance of everyone. | Re: Outlook 2007 .pst space problem Which version are you using? Microsoft Outlook 2002 and earlier versions limit the size of Personal Folders (PST) file to 2GB. Whenever the PST file reaches or exceeds that limit, you will not be able to open or load it any more, or you cannot add any new data to it. This is called oversized PST file problem. More detailed information can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/2gb-pst.htm You can use Advanced Outlook Repair to solve the problem, by either converting it into Outlook 2003 format ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problem...rt-2gb-pst.htm ), or splitting it into smaller pieces ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/split-2gb-pst.htm ) http://www.datanumen.com/aor/ contains the detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair.
