Office 2007 with old file formats

*Can the old file formats still be used?
Yes. Office Home and Student 2007 programs can be configured to save files
in earlier Microsoft Office file formats (.doc, .xls, and .ppt). When
configured this way, the Microsoft Office system programs operate in a
Compatibility Mode that enforces compatibility between releases of Microsoft
Office by disabling functionality that is incompatible with prior Microsoft
Office releases.

Ouestion: Is this configuration done during installation or is it an option
after it is installed?
Is it easy to change back in the future?
Thank you

RE: Office 2007 with old file formats

Tony,

1. Out of the box, Office 2007 saves using the new format (.docx, .xlsx, etc)
2. You can always choose to save a file in the old or new format simply by
selecting "Save As"
3. Changing the default save format is simple. Simply go to Office Button |
Word Options | Save, and change the "Save files in this format" dropdown. You
can easily switch over to making the default format the old format, then
easily change back later to the new format.
