.GIF Images in Microsoft Picture Manager

Would like to use some .GIF images in a powerpoint 2003 presentation. The
conversion is not apparent. Is there something within Office 2003 that would
allow the importation of these images? Guidance sought.

From PowerPoint's main menu, choose Insert, Picture, From File.

Browse to where your GIF images are stored, pick one and click Insert.

You just copy and paste the images like any text.
