DAT File Extension

I use/create text files with a *.DAT file extension from a commercial
purchased software program. However, my computer recognizes those files as
Creative MediaSource (CD player) files and adds their icon to my files.
Also, when I double click any file to open, it opens Creative MediaSource,
and trys to "play" the file.

I want to open the files with Notepad. Is there a way to prevent the *.DAT
text files from being recognized as Creative MediaSource files?

Right-click the file (prbably whilst holding down the shift key) and
choose Open With. Browse to Notepad. Then tick the box that says
"always open with...."
