| Outlook 2007 slow to open attachements (doc, xls) Hello- I have loaded the release version of Office Pro Plus 2007 on a four of my workstations. Three of them are all working just fine. One of them takes over a minute to open a doc file that was sent as an email attachment in Word 2007. Granted, this one workstation is one of our oldest but I would expect much better perfomance than this. Any ideas? Thank you. Matthew Kyle Problem Workstation: Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz 512 MB Ram Windows XP Pro Office Pro Plus 2007 Other Workstations: Pentium 4 3.2+ Ghz 2 GB Ram Windows XP Pro Office Pro Plus 2007 |

| Re: Outlook 2007 slow to open attachements (doc, xls) Saving it to the hard drive opens it a bit quicker, under a minute. I had already disabled the virus scanning but that didn't seem to help any. We use Trend Micros Client Server Messaging for SMB. Is it possible that this system is just to antiquated for this software? Thanks. | Re: Outlook 2007 slow to open attachements (doc, xls) Well, I have more experience with PowerPoint 2007 than with Word and Excel, but it does seem to take a little longer in general to open files than 2003 did -- but nowhere near 37 seconds! It also takes even longer to open 97-2003-format files than it does to open a 2007-format files -- but again, nowhere near 37 seconds. So I'd say no, Office 2007 isn't that intensive and no, it probably shouldn't take 37 seconds to open a file. However, it might be something to do with the file itself. As a test, try saving the file as a 2007 format (so it will have a DOCX extension) and see if that opens faster. What about a new, blank DOCX file? Open Word and type =rand(3) then hit Enter. You'll have 3 paragraphs of text. Save the file as a DOCX file and then try opening it on the slow system. Does it take an inordinately long time? Also, this will sound weird, but does the slow system have a printer driver installed locally? If not, see if adding one and setting it as the default printer helps. Another thing that will sound weird is update your video card drivers and knock Hardware Acceleration back a few notches (instrux: http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00129.htm ). These may not help at all, but they are quick and easy to try -- and they may just fix it, you never know. I'd still probably add some RAM, though. ;-) Oh, system reqs are here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/su...668651033.aspx 500 MHz and 256 MB RAM? Yeah, right. <rolling eyes> -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com What's new in PPT 2007? http://www.echosvoice.com/2007.htm Fixing PowerPoint Annoyances http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/powerpointannoy/ "Matthew Kyle" <MatthewKyle@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F95A6051-11CD-463D-9859-75C6573CE46C@microsoft.com... > Echo- > > I timed opening the document on the system using Office 2007 and its twin > running Office 2003.
