office beta 2007 crashed, now i can't open in office 2003

when i saved my files in word and excel, i saved them in the 97-2003 format.
now, however, they all have an x after them (ie .xlsx or .docx). i know you
all will say that i didn't save the right way, but i remember doing it that
way because i had to choose that before saving.

well, the whole beta thing just melted down one day and i had to uninstall.
so now how do i open those files? i change the extension it doesn't work.

and i cant' find anywhere to download the beta again.

please help!!

The beta is no longer available. You can use the RTM compatibility pack
to open your files:

Re: office beta 2007 crashed, now i can't open in office 2003

the compatibility pack tells me it can't convert my files.
it says i have to open in Excel Beta 2 and then save it.
apparently i had beta 1 (?). i had downloaded the technical refresh and
then eveything went haywire, so i had to uninstall it.

now i'm stuck. i know saved those files in the right way because it said
"compatibility mode" at the top when excel or word was open.

any other advice i will gladly take!! thanks

If it tells you to use Beta 2, then you are truly stuck without Beta 2.

Sorry,
