| CHANGES MADE EXISTING WORD/EXCEL FILES SLOW TO OPEN -Upgraded server OS from MS 2000 to MS 2003 -Upgraded MS Exchange 2000 server to MS Exchange 2003 server -Upgraded MS Outlook 2000 to MS Outlook 2003 on all workstations -Use MS Office 2000 (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access) on all workstations -Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access all open okay (no delay problems). -If existing word/excel files are opened will take anywhere from 2-4 minutes to open. -If I do a "Save As" on the file as a different filename, then when it's re-opened I have the same delay problem. -If I copy/paste to a new document and save, then when it's re-opened I DO NOT have the same delay problem. I have thousands of current word/excel documents, so I can't do the "copy/paste and save" on each every one. Any ideas ???? Thanks in advance for your time and consideration on my problem. |

| RE: CHANGES MADE EXISTING WORD/EXCEL FILES SLOW TO OPEN ADDENDUM: Just did a binary compare and can see that the file that opens slowly has been created from a template document. | Re: CHANGES MADE EXISTING WORD/EXCEL FILES SLOW TO OPEN Just a thought but take a look at Page setup in the slow ones, compared to the "copy, pasted" ones. vandewinkle wrote: > ADDENDUM: Just did a binary compare and can see that the file that opens > slowly has been created from a template document. > > "vandewinkle" wrote: > > >>-Upgraded server OS from MS 2000 to MS 2003 >>-Upgraded MS Exchange 2000 server to MS Exchange 2003 server >>-Upgraded MS Outlook 2000 to MS Outlook 2003 on all workstations >>-Use MS Office 2000 (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access) on all workstations >> >>-Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access all open okay (no delay problems). >>-If existing word/excel files are opened will take anywhere from 2-4 minutes >>to open. >> -If I do a "Save As" on the file as a different filename, then when >>it's re-opened I have the same delay problem. >> -If I copy/paste to a new document and save, then when it's re-opened I >>DO NOT have the same delay problem. >> >>I have thousands of current word/excel documents, so I can't do the >>"copy/paste and save" on each every one. >> >>Any ideas ???? >> >>Thanks in advance for your time and consideration on my problem. |

| Re: CHANGES MADE EXISTING WORD/EXCEL FILES SLOW TO OPEN THANK YOU. Even tho I'm working with Word 2000 the macro worked A-OK. It still has to wait the 2-4 minutes per .doc; but at least I can run a block of ..doc's at night until they are all done. Thanks again "garfield-n-odie [MVP]" wrote: > See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830561 "Documents that > have attached templates take a long time to open in Word 2002 and > in Word 2003". > > vandewinkle wrote: > > > ADDENDUM: Just did a binary compare and can see that the file that opens > > slowly has been created from a template document. > > > > "vandewinkle" wrote: > > > > > >>-Upgraded server OS from MS 2000 to MS 2003 > >>-Upgraded MS Exchange 2000 server to MS Exchange 2003 server > >>-Upgraded MS Outlook 2000 to MS Outlook 2003 on all workstations > >>-Use MS Office 2000 (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access) on all workstations > >> > >>-Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access all open okay (no delay problems). > >>-If existing word/excel files are opened will take anywhere from 2-4 minutes > >>to open. > >> -If I do a "Save As" on the file as a different filename, then when > >>it's re-opened I have the same delay problem. > >> -If I copy/paste to a new document and save, then when it's re-opened I > >>DO NOT have the same delay problem. > >> > >>I have thousands of current word/excel documents, so I can't do the > >>"copy/paste and save" on each every one. > >> > >>Any ideas ???? > >> > >>Thanks in advance for your time and consideration on my problem. > > |
