Hello group,

I am using MS Office 2007 for some time now. I mainly write in English
(United Kingdom). Since my native language is Turkish, my keyboard
layout is also Turkish (Q). User interface is English and I have
Turkish language pack just for spelling purposes. What I want is to
set English (United Kingdom) as the default language for everything,
no matter what my keyboard layout is set to. I tried everything. I
set, in Word 2007 (by clicking on the language thing at the bottom)
English (UK) as the default language. Then using the "Microsoft Office
2007 Language Settings" I again set default language for display and
for editing to be English (United Kingdom). In the "Editing Languages"
tab, I even removed Turkish (probably disabling Turkish spelling, I
don't know) and English (United States). Turkish went away, but
English (United States) stays there (I wanted to mention this because
there must be somthing wrong). Whenever I start Word 2007, I see
Turkish as the default spelling laguage again! AAAARgggh.. ow can I
change this behaviour?

In Language Bar ("language thing at the bottom"), right click, Settings...
make sure that your default Input Language is defined as English (UK),
Turkish keyboard. Another way to get to this screen is Control Panel,
Regional and Language Options, Keyboard and Languages, Change Keyboards.
This screen is called Text Services and Input Languages. That is under
Vista. It is in approximately the same place under XP. This is a system
setting, but Office programs refer to it. If you have other input languages
and keyboards installed, you may wish to delete them at this time.

I recommend in this screen only having one physical keyboard layout
installed, no matter how many languages you use. If you have a Turkish
keyboard attached to the computer, all languages should use Turkish
keyboard. How you type English from a Turkish keyboard is something that I
don't want to know about, but in your place I would probably have
English(UK) using Turkish keyboard and Turkish using Turkish keyboard
installed. Mine has German, French, Spanish, English (US) all using United
States - International keyboard.

As you have noticed, it is indeed possible to have a default spelling
language for which the spell checker is not installed.

In Word, Review, Set Language you may wish to uncheck "Detect Language
Automatically". Select English(UK) and click Default... Click Yes. That
should fix your Word 2007 start up problem.

In Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft
Office 2007 Language Settings, Editing Languages, Enabled Editing Languages
you could probably put Turkish back.

Hi, my problem is a simple one but clearly the solution is not as I've
spent the last two hours searching to find a solution. My wife has a
French computer with Windows XP in French... Therefore the default
Language and keyboard is in French. I am English and touch type and
therefore don't give a **** about what's actually written on the keys, I
just want to be able to change the Language and keyboard to UK English
and for it to stay there until its switched back. The Alt (left) + shift
changes the language as can be seen on the language toolbar but the
moment you seem to do anything, it switches back to French. I don't want
to use different logins as I often help my wife on the computer but it
drives me crazy when the keyboard language keeps switching. For example.
Close all Windows so that just the desktop is displayed. Select UK
English using Alt + shift. Then open InternetExplorer. guess what it
changes back to French. So switch again using Alt+ shift because the
application is clearly application dependent. Now click on the address
bar to type a URL and low and behold it's changed back to French again.
Even when you stay within Internet Explorer and you right click and open
in another tab it changes the language back to French.

I've seen a lot written on this subject but nobody seems to have an
answer and I am not alone with this problem
Is there a registry setting so that the application will not look at
the default language but take that which is currently set.
Are there any thirty party solutions to the problem?
Does Windows Vista or Windows 7 also have this very very annoying
problem?
