I currently use MS Office XP 2002. My operating system is Vista. Frequently
now, a pop-up box advises me to update my MS Office version. I agree with
the pop-up and plan to purchase and install MS Office Home & Student 2007.
Since the new Office Home & Student 2007 does not provide for the
installation of MS Outlook (my favorite contact book) I hope to retain my
2002 version of MS Outlook and have it run harmoniously with the new version
of MS Office.

That said, if that plan sounds feasible, I'm not certain about how to do
that. When I begin to install the 2007 software, will it not either
completely remove my older version - or advise me to completely UNinstall my
older version of MS Office?

Would it be advisable to export my current addresses to MS Excel, back up
my Excel documents to external disk, and then UNinstall Office 2002? Then
REinstall Office 2002 via the "custom" option and only specify the
installation of MS Outlook. Then, install my new version of Office Home &
Student 2007? Then import my saved addresses from disk to MS Outlook?

Please advise.

It won't interface with the new version, you just get to keep using
Outlook 2003.

Bob - Thanks for your prompt reply to my question. I'm still not clear on
whether or not the original [older] version needs to be UNinstalled prior to
installing the new version. Or ..... does the newer version install on top
of the older version and will the installation disregard the presence of MS
Outlook?

You can remove/Uninstall everything but Outlook which you plan on
continuing to Use. You don't need to, but if something gets snarled on
the replacement you will need to Uninstall 2007, then uninstall 2002,
then Install 2007 to sort it back out.

H&S should give you the option to upgrade, thereby removing any components
from your old version that are included in the H&S version
Outlook will be left alone
An Outlook earlier version will not fully intergrate with your later version
components
