In the last month, word (2003) had started to act strangely. For instance,
if I want to cut and past a picture off of the internet into a document. I
can't see the picture, only a box where the picture would be. The picture
will print though. Also, on my letterhead for my office, I can't see my logo
anymore.

Look for and change the "picture placeholder" setting in Tools, Options.
