Clipboard copy speed

A couple of weeks ago my PC started taking several seconds to copy to the
clipboard. This only happens in OFFICE applications - WORD and EXCEL.
Previously it had taken no significant time to copy to the clipboard.

I use VISTA Home Premium. My PC has 2 Gb memory and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual
processor running at 3.0 GHz.

Is there any reason why this might happen?
