How do I add more items to "recently used" area in task pane?

When using any of the Office programs you can access the Task Pane on the
right side of the screen, and if you are looking say for a template that you
have saved, the 4 most recently used ones are listed. I have about 12
templates in Excel, for instance, and there are 6 I use all the time, but I
always have to select " on my computer" above the "recently used" section to
see the full list of 12. Instead, I would like the "recently used" to show
up to 6 items. Is that possible?

In Word 2007: Office Icon, Word Options, Advanced and scroll down to
Display. You will find a setting for the number of recent documents.

A similar setting exists in Word 2002 and 2003 in a different location.

Don, your answer did not help me, I have Word 2003, I don't see an "OFFICE
ICON" or "WORD OPTIONS" button or tab on a menu. I find where I can change
the number of files accessed, that lists under FILE menu, I know about that
setting. But in Task Pane, the recently used templates list is what I want
to change. If you got better directions on Word 2003 settings, let me know
if it is in a menu in Word or somewhere else. Thanks.

Ignore that, the Task Pane file list length comes from the "recent file
setting" in Tools Options, General, no more, no less.

I have that option set to "9" and the Task Pane file list only lists 4
templates.
No more, no less. So there must be a setting somewhere else, or the list
is hard coded to 4 and there is no way to change it to list more.

Re: How do I add more items to "recently used" area in task pane?

After it is set to 9, close and then reopen the application, IF you are
talking about Word, and you use it as the Outlook editor, then also
close Outlook. If after that it doesn't change, log off and back on or
reboot to force it to read the settings.
