Autorecover is painfully slow

I have a real rocket of a PC; Vista Utlimate, 4 GB RAM, Quad Core processor,
15,000 RPM SAS Raid 1 Drives, 1400 VA UPS, etc. etc. My PC works very well
for the most part. However, it comes to a virtual standstill when Excel goes
into Auto-recover. While one might consider this a reasonable trade-off to
protect one's work, I find myself wondering why autorecover is about 1/5 the
speed as simply "Saving" the worksheet. I can save the sheet in about 10
seconds (something I can live with). Auto-recover takes a good minute. It can
really hinder the creative process and can be really annoying when working
with a customer on the phone. Does anyone know that what auto-recover doing
that is taking so much longer than a "save"? I'm not the only one that has
this problem. I found another newsgroup with other people commenting on it.
