Office 2007 Validation?

What indications would a user get while installing (or afterwards) if
installing Office 2007 Standard on a 4th computer -- the licensing
allows only 3?

This is a sensitive issue at work -- I need to know the signs. Thanks.

Re: Office 2007 Validation?

Hi E.W.,

There is no indication when installing, only when using the Product Activation feature after installing.

Thanks, Bob. But do you know what would happen afterwards if/when the
product activation fails on the 4th installation? This is what I need
to know. Will 2007 be usable to any extent?

Note: my concern is strictly legit: it's an issue at the office I need
to watch. Thanks.

Re: Office 2007 Validation?

Hi E.W.,

The 'usual' process is that the user may get 30 or so 'uses' (app starts) as a 'grace period' for activation. After that the
functions either stop or Office apps basically become a large set of file viewers.

This is a assuming you're installing OEM or retail Office 2007 products and not volume license versions with a volume license key
that doesn't use individual user activation.

Re: Office 2007 Validation?

FWIW Office 2007 Standard is only licensed for ONE computer/user combo.
IF the user has a portable that they use exclusively then the license
provides that the user may put it on that portable too. IF this single
license is installed on more than one desktop for more than a single
user, the company is in violation of the EULA and subject to litigation.
You might want to start checking licenses vs. installations before
someone with an axe to grind, reports the company.

MS has litigated for violating an EULA? Got proof?
