Re: thesaurus in 2007,demo not according with demo download 2003

I am trying to find the "thesaurus" menu on the microsoft 2007 version. The
2003 demo asks to go into "review tab" in the "proofing group" and then click
"Thesauras".

In attempting this I found that the menu does not have the words "proofing
group" nor the word "thesauras" but rather, only the "review tab" is
consitant with the instructions.

I would like to know why the 2003 help demo is using terminology that does
not exist on my 2007 version please, can someone shed some light on this
issue. Thank you. Lucy.

Re: thesaurus in 2007,demo not according with demo download 2003

Hi Lucia,

Word 2007 replaced the user interface from prior versions, so the demos for versions prior to Word 2007 often don't apply, as far as
navigating through the program, in earlier versions and older ones won't often help with Word 2007 if you're using a mouse, although
many of the keyboard shortcuts work the same in both.

In Word 2007 there are several 'ribbons', rather than menus that fill the upper area of the Word window, across the screen. There
are seven basic ribbons and one optional ribbon (Developer) in the default set. In addition, there are a variety of 'context based'
ribbons that are available only when certain items or operations are in process, such as working on a table or on a graphic.

Each ribbon has a tab at the top. The 'divisions' within each ribbon are called 'groups' and there is a 'Proofing' group.

On the Proofing group there is a 'Thesaurus' icon (if the Proofing tools are installed) and a 'Research' icon. Both of these will
bring up the 'Research' pane. The difference can be what the starting research/review tool is that is highlighted.

At the bottom of the research pane is a 'Research options' button that lets you choose which Reference books are active.

> Thank you Bob, in fact after I sent the query I found the thesaurus; my problem was that when the "review" button was highlighted I assumed that the "Proofing group" and "thesaurus: would be in the same section, however, much to my surprise when I looked again I found it in the left corner of the menu bar on the top of the screen. So I am sorry that I bothered you unnecessarily. Thank you again. Lucia
