How do I batch convert 2007 documents? (especially docx to doc)

I take notes in class and people often ask me to send the notes to them who
end up not having Office 2007. So, I have to open each file individually and
Save As the Word 97/2003 file type and resend... although after the first
hundred times I learned to just convert them... point is:

Is there any way to make this process easier?
A batch converter, a shell extension (right click--> convert to doc), a
gadget (there's a DOCK extension for macintosh that does this!)... or if
someone can help me compose a batch file to do this I'd really appreciate
your assistance.

Thanks in advance, and if there's nothing available, there really needs to
be, and not something I should have to pay to a 3rd party! To whom do I
appeal?

Re: How do I batch convert 2007 documents? (especially docx to doc

I prefer the docx format for myself, as its filesize is typically 1/4th the
doc format, and it has all the benefits lost in compatibility mode.

Suggest that they install the 2007 compatibility pack. That will give them the
ability to read your 2007 files in Office 2003 and (I'm fairly certain) as far
back as 2000.

Re: How do I batch convert 2007 documents? (especially docx to doc)

The Convert.wiz batch file converter from prior Office versions no longer ships (or functions) in Word 2007. MS has created a
series of 'pre deployment' conversion tools (Microsoft Office that can do batch conversions,
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office....mspx?mfr=true
but there is also, for end users, an Office compatibility pack download
(http://office.microsoft.com/downloads) (previously mentioned in another response) that allows docx files to be opened (and saved
in .docx format) in Word 2000, 2002 or 2003 (under Windows 2000 SP4 or higher).

MS is targeting the use of the new formats as defaults partially because of file size and (hopefully) fewer corrupted documents but
also for security reasons.

You may want to use the link below to also post in the MS Word programming discussion group to see what the folks there may have
come up with :) if saving as a .doc file or as a PDF file isn't a method you want to use for this.
