How do I batch convert 2007 documents? (especially docx to doc)

I take notes in class and people often ask me to send the notes to them who
end up not having Office 2007. So, I have to open each file individually and
Save As the Word 97/2003 file type and resend... although after the first
hundred times I learned to just convert them... point is:

Is there any way to make this process easier?
A batch converter, a shell extension (right click--> convert to doc), a
gadget (there's a DOCK extension for macintosh that does this!)... or if
someone can help me compose a batch file to do this I'd really appreciate
your assistance.

Thanks in advance, and if there's nothing available, there really needs to
be, and not something I should have to pay to a 3rd party! To whom do I
appeal?

I prefer the docx format for myself, as its filesize is typically 1/4th the
doc format, and it has all the benefits lost in compatibility mode.
