| Can I Move My Office 2007 To My New Computer? hey guys. i bought a computer in the early summer and i bought the Microsoft Office Standard 2007 edition. Well since i'm an idiot i didnt keep it, and now i just got a new computer (upgraded). Is there a way to transfer the program or get it on my new computer somehow? (it only comes with 60 day trial). I'm really hoping I don't have to go out and buy the software again. :( |

| Re: Can I Move My Office 2007 To My New Computer? Let me get this straight... you bought Microsoft Office Standard 2007 and threw the disks and other supporting materials away? Why would you do that? <sigh> You might be able to use a product key finder (see http://pcsupport.about.com/od/produc...pkeyfinder.htm) on your old computer to learn what the product key was. Then download a trial version, and see if your existing key can be used to activate it. You might need to call Microsoft if the activation routine detects that the existing key cannot be used again. -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Author of the Word 2007 Bible Blog: http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com Web: http://www.herbtyson.com "beau21" <beau21@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C7D8B172-C4C6-4C8B-BA23-C14BD4A0C54A@microsoft.com... > hey guys. i bought a computer in the early summer and i bought the > Microsoft > Office Standard 2007 edition. | Re: Can I Move My Office 2007 To My New Computer? If you still have your old hardrive, you can get a hardrive enclosure and use it as an external hardrive and use the program from the external hardrive. Another alternative is buy Norton Ghost for $70 to transfer the files to the new computer. If you buy new software, keep it! | Re: Can I Move My Office 2007 To My New Computer? Except that Office won't work unless it's actually been installed within the active operating system. Having access to the files is not sufficient. I have two bootable partitions on this computer--home premium vista on C: and vista ultimate on D:. If I install Office on C:, it runs fine there. If I then try to run that installed version of Office when I boot to my D: setup, the C: version of Office won't run. Vista Ultimate's registry and other system setup is wholly ignorant of Office, unless I install Office there, as well. This is true of most other modern Windows programs that require installation. -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Author of the Word 2007 Bible Blog: http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com Web: http://www.herbtyson.com "iogt007" <iogt007@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:30910F0F-47BC-454F-8CB1-04010AD4831D@microsoft.com... > If you still have your old hardrive, you can get a hardrive enclosure and > use > it as an external hardrive and use the program from the external hardrive. > Another alternative is buy Norton Ghost for $70 to transfer the files to > the > new computer.
