Document Information Panel in Word 2007, Excel 2007 & PowerPoint 2

I have Microsoft Office Professional 2007, downloaded to my Vista computer
and my XP computer. The Document Information Panel works fine in the Vista
OS, but it will not open in Windows XP computer. Any suggestions?

You might try running Office Diagnostics on the WinXP computer. Open Word,
go to Office button | Word Options | Resources | Diagnostics.

Re: Document Information Panel in Word 2007, Excel 2007 & PowerPoi

Hi Echo S,

Turned on the Developer tab and tried that, still get the message, "The
Document Information Panel is unable to load"; thanks for your help, I did
learn about the nice diagnostic feature. Any further ideas?

Re: Document Information Panel in Word 2007, Excel 2007 & PowerPoi

The error message is good information, but I can't find anything on it. I
see you posted in the PowerPoint group this morning, too, so maybe someone
there will have some ideas.

You should probably let the folks there know you've tried the diagnostics
already, because someone's bound to suggest it otherwise.

Re: Document Information Panel in Word 2007, Excel 2007 & PowerPoint 2

The Document Information Panel works with InfoPath. If you don't have
InfoPath installed then you won't see the button for the Document
Information Panel on the Developer tab. I'm not sure about this but perhaps
you don't have InfoPath 2007 installed on the computer you get the error on?
Or perhaps InfoPath isn't configured correctly and it's the one you need to
run the Diagnostic check on as Echo described.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email cannot be acknowledged.

Okay, I guess I should ask how you were opening the Document Information
Panel before I mentioned the Developer tab.

Re: Document Information Panel in Word 2007, Excel 2007 & PowerPoint 2

Ahhhh, I didn't realize InfoPath was part of the equation for the Doc Panel
button on the Developer tab.

Office Ultimate, Enterprise, and Professional Plus all include InfoPath.
Office Pro does not. To the original poster -- do you have different
versions of Office installed on the two different systems? You can check by
going to Office button | PPT Options | Resources | About.

Again, to the original poster -- you mentioned you have Office Pro 2007.
Thing is, Office Pro shouldn't show the Document Panel button on the
Developer tab at all. So I'm guessing you are using Office Pro Plus 2007,
maybe with a custom document panel, and something's screwy with the
customized doc panel.

The Document Panel is also used to give information to SharePoint. Does
SharePoint come into the equation anywhere?

Beth and I were talking about this on IM, and she suggested that running a
repair on InfoPath (which we're not actually sure if you have or not, to
tell the truth) might be worth a shot as well.
