I upgraded to Office 2007 and the new and open document icon has not
returned. Does anyone know how to get it back or did they stupidly get rid
of it?

Installation is optional. In Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs select
Microsoft Office and click on Change. Choose Add/Remove Features and look
under shared features. In the new and open documents entry, select Run on My
Computer.
I am using Windows XP. If you are using a different version of Windows, the
steps may differ.
