Problem with Thunderbird mail client and MS office:

I recently upgraded my MS Office programs to the 2007 version. Ever since
then, I am unable to open Office attachements in Thunderbird. I get this
error message....

"c:\temp "file name" - could not be opened, because an unknown error
occured. Try saving to disk and then opening the file."

Great....that works. But I get hundreds of attachments each day and don't
want to save every single one of them. It only happens with Office documents;
PDF's and image files open fine.

Does anyone else have this error.....perhaps theres a resolution?
