| WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" Hello All, How can I fix the "End program - WMS idle" message when shutting down WinXP Pro? When I shut down WinXP Pro SP2 I receive the above message. Googling I've found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921113 however it appears to apply to Contact Manager 2005. I do have the Contact Manager installed with Office Professional 2003, so I'm not sure this applies. Any ideals? TIA! -- Regards, Greg Strong |

| RE: WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" That article doesn't mention Contact Manager at all...it applies to Communicator 2005. When you shut down Outlook before shutting down Windows, go to the Task Manager and look at the list of processes (not applications) that are running. If OUTLOOK.EXE is still running, something else is keeping it open...most likely some kind of add-in. Try disabling your add-ins and reenable them one by one to see if one of them is the culprit. It could also be some other 3rd party program that interacts with Outlook in some way that is keeping Outlook open. -- Jocelyn Fiorello MVP - Outlook *** Messages sent to my e-mail address will NOT be answered -- please reply only to the newsgroup to preserve the message thread. *** "Greg Strong" wrote: > Hello All, > > How can I fix the "End program - WMS idle" message when shutting down > WinXP Pro? > > When I shut down WinXP Pro SP2 I receive the above message. | RE: WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" I get the "end program - wms idle" message every time I shut windows down. I don not have communicator 2005 on my system. | RE: WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" I have a client who has this problem on a new workstation. It turned out to be Microsoft Desktop Search that was causing the problem. I found a post on another forum that documented the same problem with Google Desktop as well. | RE: WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" I was able to prevent the problem by modifying the search list Desktop Search uses to index. It was indexing all of the other profiles on the local drive and the Windows subdirectory of his own profile. Once I excluded the other profiles and the later folder (and it's child objects) I was able to log off/reboot/shutdown without issue. On a side note I noticed that Desktop Search has also started indexing Outlook Express even though he didn't use it. Since it was installed with the OS and he didn't need it indexed I uninstalled it. I'm not sure if it was a catalyst as well, but I doubt it. "Matt" wrote: > I have a client who has this problem on a new workstation. | RE: WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" WMS Idle message, fixed by uninstalling Nero Scout; it comes with new Nero 7 OEM and it installs an active dektop that even when disabled to show on task bar it still runs in background. Found several registry editing fixes to remove unwanted Nero Scout, but opted to just uninstall the Nero 7 and reinstall the Nero 6 (Nero 7 regular not OEM with DVD writer purchase) Nero Scout teamed up with new Office 2003 Service Pack 3 was culprit in my case. | RE: WinXP Pro shutdown message "End program - WMS idle" Did you find a fix for this problem? I do not have Office Communicator of any version loaded, so the hotfix will not install, and am trying to find out what is causing it. Please let know. Thank you.
