Problem with saving files in Office 2007

work in the IT department of a local college in my area. Some of our
staff (including me) run Office 2007. We have been problems saving
documents that are in 2003 format. For example we have a excel
document that everyone can access. If I bring it up and make changes
to it and try to save it I get the error saying document is in use try
again later. We had this happen before and it went away when we
rebooted the server the document is on.

Here is the wierd thing if you open the document in Excel 2003 make
changes and hit save it will save the document with no problems. Does
Office 2007 put in a lock on the document that the 2003 won't read and
that's why it saves it? Any help on this would be appreciated as we
cannot reboot our server (our public storage server) every time it
happens. Thanks
