A friend has purchased a new laptop (old one gave up the ghost) and was
"persuaded" to purchase a copy of Norton 360 and Office Home and Student
Edition 2007 as well

I was asked to set-up the PC (mail etc) and it was then that I noticed the
Office package was labeled " Service Desk Edition". I queried this and they
had been advised that as the new PC had Vista there were issues/problems with
this OS and earlier versions of Office (??). My friend already has the
Student Edition of Office XP (2002).

I've read posts on the Service Desk Edition.

1) Can it be confirmed that my friend should not of been sold the service
desk edition....quote "It isn't intended for general sale to the public......"

2) Are there issues with earlier version of Office (e.g. The Student Edition
of Office XP.

3) Has my friend been duped into spending money unnecessarily ??? I suspect
they have.

It's my intention to address the issues with the store concerned but I'd
like some ammunition to support my complaint on my friends behalf

The only thing I know of that doesn't work in Office XP on Vista is that
Outlook 2002 will not remember your email password, so you have to enter
it every time you check your email. Everything else in Outlook, Word,
Excel, and Powerpoint should be okay. Not sure about Access because I
don't use it.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think there was any major problems with
earlier versions of Office. My friend doesn't use Outlook, preferring the
Express version so no issues at. all.

I'd still like to know whether the Service Desk Edition is not, nor was
intended, to be sold the the general public.
