I have Vista Home Premium and also Office 2007.
My wife continues to complain that she has such a hard time in Excel 2007
with not being [easily] able to find the same buttons and options, etc...
So, is there a way to uninstall Excel 2007 and install Excel 2003? This
means I would still keep Word 2007, PowerPoint 2007, etc as part of Office
2007.

Or alternatively, is there a way to open a new worksheet/book in Excel
97-2003 format when I launch Excel 2007? I already have the option set to
auto-save anything in Excel 97-2003 format (XLS).

You can of course open a worksheet/book in Excel 97-2003 format, but
that won't change the 2007 user interface. If you want to get some
resemblance of the old menus & toolbars in 2007, download the free
edition of my RibbonCustomizer add-in (link below) and switch on the
classic UI tab for Excel.
You can also install Excel 2003. However, that is going to require that
you first completely remove Office 2007, then install whatever 2003
programs (in your case probably just Excel you want, but I would
recommend installing more, just no Outlook, because it's a pain if you
want to add another 2003 program later), then reinstall 2007 with a
custom install where you choose to keep the 2003 programs. This is a
project for a longer afternoon though...

How do you know they better suited his needs? No one is required to carry a billboard around with every possible permutation of their application - why do you think so?

And what constructive advice have you provided for over a year that entitles you to heavily criticize one of the most helpful MVPs around, especially when people were having problems with the beta?

Well, Walter. It seems the threads got a little off-track, but I hope you
found the answer you were looking for amidst the assistance-jockeys.

I have a personal word of advice for you since I deal with this kind of
thing with my customers all the time. I have an IT company and all my
customers are currently going through the headaches of updgrading now or in
the near future.

As annoying as change is, the truth is that the XP interface is dying and
will never be coming back.. it's been replaced with Vista. The same with
Office. The old interface is dying and has been replaced with another new
one. While you certainly CAN force the new vewsion to look like the old one,
you're eventually going to have to adopt the new one anyway.. it's just part
of the game when you deal with growing software applications.

Learning office 2007 was hard for me at first and I'm one of the most
advanced users you'll find out there. I kept constantly stopping my work in
2007 and then opening the files in 2003 because I knew where all the buttons
were.
Eventually I just uninstalled 03 and forced myself to learn 2007 the hard way.

In the end.... 2007 is a lot easier to use. Once you get the feel of styles
and the new interfaces, there are lots more options available to you. It only
took me a couple of days constantly presing the Help key to be pointed in the
right direction o most all of my questions. Now, I wouldn't go back for
anything.

that will show you the 2003 UI, you select the command you are looking
for it in it, and it will then show you where to find it in 2007.

You may download one free addin from Addins page of below site

choose Excel Menu 2003.

1. This Addin need to load only for the first time.
2. It installed Worksheet Menubar, Standard Toolbar and Formatting Toolbar
in the Addins Tab inside the Ribbon.
3. The File Size is only about 20 kb.
