I have 2002, and 2003 installled. I need to also run 2007. I heard that
Virtual PC could help me but there are some issues/concerns. I dont recall
what I was told they are. I wondered if it were possible to run 2007 on an
external hard drive. Would that solve my problem?

If you could clarify or point me to some articles about this, I would be
very greatful!

I am running XP, not considering Vista at this point, unless it is highly
recommended.

You can run all these versions in parallel with the one exception that
you have to settle on one version of Outlook. Please read the KB article
linked from this blog post: http://pschmid.net/blog/2007/04/20/110 for
the instructions for doing this.
With Virtual PC, you would run a simulated computer on your machine. The
Virtual PC would be a separate Windows and you could do a clean install
of Office 2007 into it without affecting the configuration of your
actual computer. Note that you need a separate Windows license for every
virtual machine.

So, there is no problem with running 2007 and 2003 on the same machine? I

I ran 2007 and 2003 (except for Outlook, as noted by Patrick) side by side
from the earliest beta through the general release of 2007. The only problem
I encountered was that Word 2007 and 2003 can sometimes get into a tug of
war (each one trying in turn to reclaim ownership of Word files). But, I
found that the trick described in the following article eliminated that
problem:

I have been doing the same as Herb since the earliest beta. In addition
to the Word problem, for which eventually a workaround was discovered,
Access has the same tug of war problem with 2003 and 2007. Unfortunately
there is no workaround for the Access one.
As with Herb's experience, I haven't had any other problems though.
