msvcr80.dll was not found

I see a handful of post with my same issue with no solutions. I will restate
the issue and hope someone can direct me to the solution or someone who can
assist to solve this problem. I have an ACER laptop running Vista Home
Premium. I have installed Office Enterprise 2007 as well as a handful of
other products. All office components work with the exception of PowerPoint
and Outlook. They both receive the following error upon executing “This
application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem”. Some post suggest
removing Norton via the removal tool from Symantec. Did that and it did not
help. Other posts talk about manifest files. Tried those suggestions and they
also do not work. Another post suggests copying the file into the system32
folder. That eliminates the error but the system then just goes directly to
Microsoft Office has stopped working and is looking for a solution. Anyone
have a suggestion?

Post that error on the Symantec support site and you will find your answer.

Milly, I have posted that error as advised and got no answer.

I have searched a hundred different newsgroups referring to that error and
no solutions.

I have removed Nortons and it makes no difference.

Please advise.

RE: msvcr80.dll was not found

Look in the add and remove programs and uninstall Acer DataManagement
Security software, then perform a detect and repair of office 2007. This
should allow Outlook to open without error.

RE: msvcr80.dll was not found

Got some real hope from this post Paula but it did not work. Thanks anyway.

I have seen many, many references to this problem over two weeks of
searching but so far no resolution. I am a big MS supporter but patience is
wearing thin.

Have you tried reinstalling/repairing Office?

I've seen sites that profess to have that file available as a download.
Please note that I don't know what that file does so I would tread
carefully.

It's the latest version of the Visual C runtime DLL. Most C/C++
programs built using Visial Studio 2005 require this DLL to run. It's
a standard part of the distribution for such programs, and it's
redistributable without royalites, so not surprising it can be found
on may web sites.

Harlan and JoAnn,

Thanks for your replies. If it is a standard dll why can Outlook not find it?
I have seen reference to downloading that file but generally they go on to
say it did not help. If I was to download it, where do you recommend to put
it?

Cheers,
Steve

Look on the Symantec Support site for assistance with this issue - it is a result of a Symantec program.

I have heard that story too. Uninstalled Nortons completely and then ran the

Re: msvcr80.dll was not found

msvcr80.dll is normally found in the Windows\system32 or WINNT\system32
folder, depending on your version of Windows. If it's not there, getting
a copy and putting it ther may help. Since it's a DLL, it may need to be
registered in order to make it available. The copy on my Win2000 system
is version 8.0.50727.42, dated 09/23/2005.
