register a complaint re: Ribbons vs. Classic Menus in Office 2007

I just had a pleasant telephone conversation with a Microsoft "Customer
Service Representative" on their 1-800 number, in which I detailed the
reasons for my dissatisfaction with Office 2007's inefficient ribbons. I
also requested an update with the Classic Menus. My complaint was to be sent
to Microsoft's head office. As the Microsoft website appears not to have a
"complaint" URL, I suggest that all dissatified users of Office 2007 phone to
register their complaint.

This message must get to the corporate level so that they know that
experienced users see the ribbons as being inefficient and unwelcome,
especially with the lack of any option of menus. Without our feedback, we
will all be stuck with the ribbons.

Please, find the 1-800 number for your area and make that call. Be specific
about the problems you've encountered. The Customer Service Representative
was very helpful.

Well I'm an "experienced" user and I find the ribbon far more logical and
easy to get to than the "classic" menus......

In my opinion, the Ribbon is the better user interface for Office 2007
than menus & toolbars ever could have been.
However, I can assure you that you are pretty much wasting your time
with calls like this. Microsoft has invested a lot of money into this UI
and there is very strong commitment on all levels of Microsoft to this
UI.
The harsh truth is that you either have to learn the Ribbon UI, use one
of the available add-ins to get a sort of classic UI in 2007, stay with
an older Office version, or switch from Microsoft Office to another
suite.

I consider myself a very experienced user (I've been using Office apps since
late 1985 when I started using Excel on a Mac) and I initially had the same
complaint when I first started using Office 2007. BUT once I got over my
initial shock, no longer have no need for the old interface and have found
the new Ribbon interface a welcome change to a technology that was developed
for the early 80s, which in the last 10 years, was quickly outgrowing its
functionality.

My experience is like most that have actually sat down and spent a little
time with Office 2007. Initially we hate it, think Microsoft is nuts, think
other users will never adapt to this new "clunky Ribbon" and then we
discover the new functionality the Ribbon has to offer and end up eating our
own words. <grin>

Small addition to your post. One thing most people miss when they first
look at the ribbon is the ability to put commands on a quick access tab.
By using this feature you can really minimize digging through the ribbon
to find the commands you use frequently. A great improvement IMO.

Good point! And to add a minor correction, it's called the Quick Access
Toolbar for those who might be wanting to learn more about it and look it
up. :-)

I had already added numerous commands to the Quick Access
Toolbar, and I found a webpage with a guide to finding old Excel commands in
Office 2007:

Even after working with Office 2007 long enough to develop familiarity with
the program, I find the ribbon commands to be tedious and inefficient,
requiring more time and effort than with prior versions of Excel in order to
achieve the same end result. I just spent hundreds of dollars for Office
2007, and I find it far less efficient than previous versions. I contacted
Microsoft to let them know why I'm dissatisfied, and I suggest that all other
like-minded individuals do the same.

In what ways do you use Excel? Formulas/Functions? Lists? Charting? There
are new features in each of these areas that may not have discovered.
