Default to Print Preview when hitting "print"

Hello, I'm trying to default to "print preview" in word when I hit
"print." My Word 97 used to have it; I just got a new PC with Word
2007 and I can't find any way to do this. Can someone help?

Thanks!

Why not just hit the Print Preview icon?

I suspect if he could find the Print Preview icon then he wouldn't be
posting here, right? ;-)

Re: Default to Print Preview when hitting "print"

When you click the Microsoft Office Button, instead of clicking Print, point
at it and another menu will display and there's where you'll find Print
Preview. If you want to add it to your Quick Access Toolbar, right-click
Print Preview and then click Add to Quick Access Toolbar.

Re: Default to Print Preview when hitting "print"

Good point. Silly me - when I can't find something in Word 2007, which often
happens, I either hit F1 or go to
http://office.microsoft.com/assistan...HA100744321033

I *REALLY* like that site. Well, except for the time I was trying to
alphabetize a bunch of paragraphs. It was no help whatsoever. And then
Patrick told me how. It was one of those "D'oh!" moments.

Re: Default to Print Preview when hitting "print"

Thanks for the replies! Even if I both remember to and take the time
to hit "print preview," it will not show me what I want to print if I
have selected something. That is, it only shows me the whole page/
document, not "selection." That sort of defeats the whole purpose,
which is to have an idea what will actually emerge from the printer
and, if necessary, to make some adjustments before actually printing.
Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you.

Re: Default to Print Preview when hitting "print"

Word has never provided the ability to preview your selection. If you had
this ability in previous versions then you had a custom macro for it.

Now, you can Preview a selection in Excel, perhaps that's what you are
thinking of?

Re: Default to Print Preview when hitting "print"

FWIW the "print preview" you recall is most likely due to the printer
and driver you were using with Word 97. You may have that ability in the
current set up, but you will need to rummage around in the printer
properties and preferences from the operating system side of the printer
settings.
