Peice of Linux Os...

So I downloaded PCLinuxOS and tried to boot it but it hangs at the
goofy progress bar going about an inch across the screen. Why do they
hide the boot messages with a splash screen anyway?
Tried it on my desktop too and the same thing happens; gets to the same
spot and quits.
WTF?

If the downloaded and burned 'image' is OK, suspect your hardware.

You can probably see the start-up messages scrolling (or not scrolling!)
by hitting the Esc key.

Check the download and the burn. Sounds like corrupt file or media.

Nope. Funky minimum system requirements. I checked the media on this HP
laptop thats only two years old.
Booted just fine.
It wouldnt boot on my Pentium M 1400mhz 256mb ram Dell laptop without
hanging. Same with my P III 800mhz
Dell desktop.
I thought PCLinuxOS was a lighterweight distro...guess they're shooting
for newer hardware.
Bummer.

Change virtual consoles. Or did you not read any of the multitude of
readme files?

No. Rec hardware suggests 1G ram for the generic, minimum 256. I
wouldn't try to run a KDE distro on 256.

There's a PCLOS w/ lxde that ought to be a lot lighter. Also an E-17
one. lxde would be lightest; e-17 weight would comparable to xfce
which there is also a pclos xfce.

Try to boot it in safeboot. It should boot up the live cd as normal.
use esc to see what is going on in the background

Seem clear enough <http://pclinuxos.com/?page_id=2>.

The users' web forum might have some help to offer. It's possible the
'Live CD' isn't coping with some aspect of the hardware which a proper
installation process would handle OK.

PCLinuxOS is a 'fork' of Mandriva (back when it was Mandrake). No
lightweight!

Edit the startup parameters to show dmesg. Maybe hit esc during
preboot and enter e. Follow the instructions.

Figures. I went with my second choice instead of trying nUbuntu which
is fluxbox based.

If you two ladygurls are finished playing grab-ass tag team...heres
what happend when I booted PCLinux os with vesa-safe mode:
hangs at "Probing SCSI drives: Floating point exception."

So it is in fact a BUG. Verified at the PCLinux forum:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index...c,62766.0.html

Funny thing is...I aint booting from a USB DRIVE.
So much for PeiCeofLinux OS...
