You'd think Xbuntu would have a normal installer, not some freaky deaky
thing that wont boot a cd properly.
Really...*this* is the state of linux development?

Discuss.

I'm not willing to discuss Ubuntu, as it is a piece of garbage. If you
want to learn Linux, try Gentoo first. It'll teach you how Linux works.
However, the chance you get it to run properly depends on your skills.
But you'll get the feeling. Then, wipe the disk and install any other
distro you like. Try them all. Find the disadvantages of RedHat and Suse.
Finally, you'll end up with Slackware. Oh, and don't dual boot. Get
yourself a realtime, standalone Linux box on your network to find out how
it interacts with other OSes and your DC, if any.

Best ISO is the latest (13) ?

My first cable modem router was a Slack 3.3 box with no X. Remember
having to compile and make a lot of stuff for it. Even the 3Com 905
kernel drivers were 'experimental' back then what did they call them,
Tornado or some **** like that?
