I am using Mandriva Linux release 2006.0 and several times when I load
acroread 5 (yes I still prefer this one!), the mouse stops clicking.
Thus I am able to move the mouse pointer around but I cannot click
anything, e.g. I cannot choose any of the open windows I may have.

I am not sure how to restart the mouse and thus I have to restart
X-windows.

Is it any way to make the mouse respond properly without restarting
the entire X-windows system?

Much depends on why it stops, if you would have had a more up to date version
of Mandrivia, you would have udev/hal which could have made the the mouse
start working by reloading the udev rules or applying new settings to hal.

If you are worried about adobe spying on you, switch over to kpdf and you will
get around your problems.
