Pidgin was working fine,... now all of a sudden it refuse to connect to
Yahoo messenger...but connect OK to Gtalk...

Pidgin home page is not helpful...I was wondering if somone here could help
me...I am using Mandriva 2008...

Have you looked in google's search engine

pidgin changed yahoo in the first box
changed the date to 1-jun-2009 through 22-jun-2009

and received Results 1 - 10 of about 8,540 for Pidgin changed yahoo.

2008 is getting a little long in the tooth. You might want to check out

....Jesus! you scared me...you are everywhere ( luckily...)

I did some googling but could not find anything useful...the only thing
close to my problem was an error connections following the avatar icon I
added to my profile...some guy had problems connecting to yahoo after
adding it...but no use...

it would never occurr to me to type "pidgin changed yahoo"

....thanks anyway, it turned out I had to change the page server...now it
works fine again...

I tryed installing 2009 but I had sound problem I could not solve...and was
a bit intimidated by the new look...as soon as I get 2009.1 I'll install
it, or maybe wait for the next release...but get ready for my "please help"

I googled something up a day or two ago about this. Apparently Yahoo is
in the midst of revamping servers to a new protocol, which of course
causes Pidgin to break and no connect to yahoo. It said that release
2.60 was supposed to fix this. I found that there is a new maint
release 2.57 out. This fixed my lone windows machine, I use OpenSuse on
my linux machines, their upgrade site does not have the one tailored for
opensuse yet available.

Well I am surprised. Looking at

would seem to indicate you would need a later release because of yahoo changes.
Looking though mirror indexes would show you might have to look in
backports for a new release.

Here's how to fix Pidgin instant messenger if you experience Yahoo account
connection problems.

You have to change your pager server By going to Accounts->manage
accounts(in the main window menu), then selecting your Yahoo account and
clicking on 'Modify'. Change pager server to 66.163.181.166

Maybe you were right to be surprised...
....this morning it does not work again, connection refused...very
frustrating as I have no idea now were to go

Just an FYI. Been playing with 2010.0 (cooker).
Pulseaudio is working much better than 2009.1 and 2009.0.
I am able to use skype with it enabled and Audacity records mic correctly.
Both were broke in 2009.1.

....well I did not read it because it was working, ... now I read
it...changed again the page server and it works again, but I will upgrade
to the 2.5.7 version ...let's see if I manage to install from source...

Pidgin 2.5.7 added support for Yahoo Protocol 16. I wonder why so many
replies and no one else mentioned that.
