I seem to recall having the same problem with libstdc++.so.5 the first time I installed FF2. A bit too late to tell you about it now, though... :-) Now that you've got the symlink for firefox in /usr/bin, you don't need to cd to the firefox directory in order to run it as /usr/bin is on the path that the system uses to locate executables. You can just open a console and enter 'firefox', or in KDE you can press Alt+F2 and enter 'firefox', or you can just run it from the icon on your menu.
