Lynx and forwarding router question

Using an old box as an internet connection router for the house LAN.
Everything fine with Firefox. Claws-Mail, Pan etc. Just tried using Lynx
from an internal machine and it gets stuck looking up the router address,
not the DNS server address in resolv.conf. As usual, when you want a
simple clue, everything you find is advanced tech-stuff. My eyes are
getting gummy now, so, as this must be a common thing, so does anybody
have a pointer or two to hand?
