| French accents in **** Small Linux? I installed DSL on an old laptop. Just about everything works fine except for the accents. I have a US keyboard so I set up the keyboard to US Intl, but can't figure out a way to use a dead key in order to get the accents. According to what I read on the net, I should be able to press Alt and an accent followed by a letter. I also tried all kind of key combinations without success. - Fn-Alt (left/right), Ctrl, Ctrl-Alt, ... I tried to change the keyboard layout using xkeycaps, but I cannot figure out how to assign a dead key. Any suggestions? |

Select a key you don't need and remap it to be a Compose Key with xmodmap. I use Scroll Lock and have the following line in my ~/.xmodmap keycode 0x4e = Multi_key which I load with "xmodmap ~/.xmodmap" as part of fvwm's setup. Then I can press Scroll Lock, accent, key and get the appropriate accented letter. This will apply to most apps like firefox, pidgin, etc. On my editor, XEmacs, things work a bit different and the above is not needed. -- HASM |
