| mdadm spares for two array sizes Hi all, I have to create two mdadm arrays and share the spares between the two arrays. The problem is that the arrays have devices of different sizes. One array will be raid6 and will not occupy the whole disks (a small boot partition will be before) so it is a raid where the physical devices are partitions. The other array would be a raid5 array, which should be the whole size of the disks. Ok if it is simpler I can create a partition in each disk so that the physical devices are partitions as it is for the raid6 array, however, the partitions in this case should be large as the whole disk, so, larger than for the raid6 one. So the arrays are of different size. For the spares I can make the partitions as large as the whole disk, so to cover both cases, however I need to know if mdadm is intelligent enough to use the spares even for the raid6 array if needed (wasting some space at the end). Will this work? Thank you |
