Will GRUB on Debian4.0 or FC7 dual boot WinXP?

Hi all,

I saw recently an installation of Ubuntu 7.04 in PC with exisitng WIN
XP in which GRUB installed on the MBR recognised the existing WIN XP
OS and dual booting was going on smoothly.

This was one of the reasons I did not venture to install Linux on my
friends' machines which had WIN XP though they wnated to try out
linux.

My question is, whether the GRUB bootloader of the DEBIAN 4.0 DVD's
supplied with LFY of AUG'07 or the FC7 (JUL 07) does also recognise
WIN XP and dual boot ?

Has any of the list members done it ? If you give me a confident yes,
a minimum of 6 friends are waiting on whose machines I will install
Debian 4.0 over the weekend.
Pl give some leads.

PS : My machine dual boots with an ancient Win98 SE and Debian 3.1

Yes.

Install XP leaving a partition for Linux, install Linux in that
partition... done.

Just don't overwrite your XP partition with the Linux install... there are
certain distributions where "use the whole disk" is the default option...
Fedora is one of them.

So when the install starts talking about partitioning PAY ATTENTION!

You can also use the XP boot loader to dual boot Linux but it's not quite
as easy and prone to magically re-configuring itself.

I told you this was going to happen.

Support for creating boot option for existing operating systems has been
around for quite a long time and hasn't been limited to one or two distros,
but been supported in most.
