| google docs type linux server ? I would like to set up a linux server to run some sort of Google Docs type server+client system. I use Ubuntu, I have set up a linux apache and ftp server in the past so that does not worry me. But are there open source apps of some sort so I could set up my own Google Docs type collaborative writing system? My end goal is to have collaborative writing system like Google Docs, but without using google docs; for writing intellectual property type material (novel, screenplays, etc) call me paranoid but I just do not want that sort of valuable material sitting around in databases on public servers. Thus looking for an alternative. Any thoughts appreciated. ~Beowulf |

Ok at first I thought you were commenting on that little goblin dude in Harry Potter (I think his name was similar to gobby?)-- but a google search of gobby turns up some interesting info. http://www.google.com/search?source=...=Google+Search Thank you JO ! ~Beowulf |

Now I am wondering if there is a way to add some layer of security to that the text that flows between client and server could be encrypted, since I do not think (I could be wrong) that gobby or sobby uses any client server encryption. Would there be any way to pipe the apps through ssh or something to encrypt the flow of text over the net? |

You would need to setup some tunneling rules for ssh, I'm not that good on those, have a small script at work that I use to get some tunneling to some off office sql servers. -- //Aho |
