If the system won't accept your UK address, you have your answer. In one case a vendor called me from England and asked! "are you aware sir what shipping is going to cost." Said I, "yes, please send the products sir." |

You can order your Dell computer at the sales kiosk and it is delivered to your home or office. On Slashdot it was mentioned that it is cheaper to buy a Windows version than the Ubuntu preinstalled version but you can always convert it to a dual-boot Vista/Ubuntu laptop yourself by partitioning the HD and installing Ubuntu or any other Linux distro. |

The Microsoft version is more expensive but they offer a "free" upgrade that supposedly more than offsets the price difference. -- John Hasler john@dhh.gt.org Dancing Horse Hill Elmwood, WI USA |

Does this mean that I > cant get one here in the UK? > > Thanks. Linux on Dells... Ho ho ho. Let me laught fatly. That's the second best joke of the millenium after M$'s vista release. What you will get is a dual-boot M$hit + Debian-like basic OS that you'll never get working because of hardware incompatibility. So, still want to pay for billy's golden water-closet? Get one! Don't be ashamed. Ciao @+ |

On Slashdot it was > mentioned that it is cheaper to buy a Windows version No. That was only if you used the "upgrade" vouchers (for a Vista "upgrade"). The Linux machines /are/ significantly cheaper than the Windows ones. The slashdot posting was just the usual manipulative MS FUD! Chris |

I'll agree that MS putting a skin and some DRM on top of their already badly broken XP was a sick joke, but lots of morons are falling for it! > What you will get is a dual-boot M$hit + Debian-like basic OS that you'll > never get working because of hardware incompatibility. No. You're /entirely/ wrong. It all works perfectly straight out of the box. Chris |

Actually, what you get is a properly installed and fully functional Ubuntu Linux install with no MS. > > So, still want to pay for billy's golden water-closet? Get one! When last I checked, the Ubuntu version was $50-$100 less than the MS version. |
