Posting using Pan

Hi

I cannot send newsgroup postings using Pan newsreader. I get the error
message 441-not allowed to post. Any ideas why? If you could help I'd
appreciate it.

Your news server, news.sky.com(?), probably requires authentication - user
name and password. Give their help desk a call.

And let us know how it turns out or what you learn.

Thanks for responses. My ISP does not have a news server so I couldn't
use theirs so I was trying use a free one. I gave up in the end and
just decided to use google groups as it is easier.

Strange, sky.com has news.sky.com registered in their DNS, 195.173.72.91,
but it does not respond to a ping.

Googling "free news servers" gets 437 million hits and you can't find even
one that works?

Personally, I don't mind paying $3.95/mo to supernews. They provide
excellent service and have been responsive to my very few complaints.

Not so strange if you're familiar with satellite tv broadcasting in
Europe... news.sky.com in a browser gives you the web page of Sky News, a
24 hour tv news channel.

Indeed it is. They must have blocked ping packets.

You also might want to check if the server will allow posting according
to your account status - if you have opted for a "free" account, you
may not have posting privileges - read the "fine" print in regards to
the types of accounts available.

Except that many, or at least many Useneters that I know are currently
killing or downscoring articles that originate with Google Groups so best
to find a free server or a low pay server to expose your question to the
most eyes.

YMMV

Posting at the top because that's where the cursor happened to be
is like ****ting in your pants because that's where your asshole
